What if we took a holistic approach to dementia and Alzheimer’s care? Part 1

Cooper and Nicole welcome Teepa Snow, founder of Positive Approach to Care, for part one of a discussion on preventing, identifying and treating those with a dementia or Alzheimer’s diagnosis.  Teepa compares dementia to other chronic illness like diabetes.  For example, can’t cure diabetes, but what we can do is help manage it.  Teepa feels that people have viewed dementia as being unmanageable, the answer is, that is not true.  The trick is we are probably not going to use medications, we are going to have to use environmental supports, care behavior supports, and we are going to have to customize programing to actually help the person continue to live their life as well and as much as they can do it with the right supports in place.
