Jun 24 What if we made health care jobs more appealing and rewarding?
Nicole and Cooper are joined by Eric Scharber, Principal with Exact Recruiting a Simione Talent Solution, to discuss how to attract and retain talent in non-acute health care.
If you could put a strategy into place that could address 4 things you have the opportunity to move the needle on turnover/retention rates. Those four things are:
- Compensation
- Culture
- Professional development
- Advancement opportunities
The need for talent increases as the aging population demands more people to provide care. The organization with the most talent at the end of the day is going to win. The organizations that focus on talent are going to be successful and thrive. The strategies that you put together don’t mean anything if you don’t have the right people in place that are going to execute the vision of your organization. There are some great people running operations out there but they don’t understand how to lead people. The number one issue should be the whole workforce challenge. Talk about who you are as an organization. “Lock” your key leadership in a room and discuss who you are as an organization and what you have as a culture and then develop a retention strategy that will work. We need to focus on the people we hire and everything else will solve itself. Those organizations that follow this mantra are the ones that are flourishing.
We also need to figure out how to work with the millennials. By the year 2025 75% of the workforce will be millenials. They are talented, but they do things differently and we just have to just accept it. We need to figure out how to motivate and drive that generation. The mistake that organizations are making is that they are going to do it the “same way” that they have always done it. The millennials are more loyal than generations before then IF you engage them. The problem is that only 3 out of every 10 millennials feel engaged. We need to get out of the way.
